Public Relations and Marketing
Generating a news and PR service for government clientele remains a traditional function—but it has also become a proactively contemporary service.
GIS information officers are charged with providing a liaising conduit between government ministries and departments and the public; as such they also function in an advisory capacity to influence news content so that it is as transparent, responsive and detailed as possible.
These staff members produce print material for clients, ranging from speeches and news releases, to bulletin boards, press kits and media advisories. They further advise other GIS colleagues and on occasion have practical input into the electronic, graphic and strategy sections and their products.
In short, information officer productivity centres on liaising between clients and colleagues, in order to fulfill felt and perceived customer needs, and provide essential news and PR services.
