Photography

Share GIS’ view of Cayman through the camera’s lens.

Much of the history of the Cayman Islands Government is in photos taken by GIS. Who led the country, what programmes were launched, where buildings were erected, when VIPs visited – photos were taken by GIS.

The unit offers a range of services:

News photography
Our information officers travel with digital cameras. If they’re asked to do a press release, they’ll also be looking for an opportunity to take a photo.

Portraits
The unit always has at least one talented individual who can set up the lights and screens and take official headshots.

Photo releases
For some events, photos speak louder than words. GIS information officers will take lots of photos of the National Children’s Festival of the Arts or the pageantry surrounding the Queen’s Birthday celebrations or the solemnity of Remembrance Day, and then encourage local publications to print a photo story.

Coverage of events
GIS archives photos of public events. Many of these are covered by island media, so the unit’s role is one of historical documentation.
